Wednesday marked the third annual Run Ribs and Reggae event put on by Choices and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Approximately 150 Union students, employees, and others participated in the 5K run that went through and around campus. Proceeds, which unofficially totaled more than $1,000, went to the V foundation for cancer research. Runners and supporters all enjoyed ribs and a live performance by the reggae group Jah Works on the back Reamer patio following the race. This spring event has been a success every year and seems to both excite and bring together the campus.
“We had a great day,” said Student-Athlete Program Director and Head Athletic Trainer
Cheryl Rockwood.” It's an event that needs cooperation from all facets of the campus community to be successful and our student-athletes did an excellent job of advertising and supporting an alcohol free fun event.”
"Yesterday was a lot of fun, it was great to see all the community, student-athletes, and the student body as a whole participate,” said men's lacrosse senior Ian Dempsey. “The SAAC continues to promote events that are both engaging and fruitful for the college and the community. Service, food, and exercise how can you go wrong?"
SAAC is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
