Houghton named Union cross country coach

SCHENECTADY, NY – John Houghton, a 2001 graduate of Union College, has been named the head coach for his alma mater's men and women's cross country teams, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin announced Friday. Houghton, an assistant coach at Union from 2002-09, takes over for Dave Riggi, who will focus his time and energy on both the men and women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

Houghton graduated from Union with a Bachelor of Science in industrial economics with a minor in computer science, and also earned a MBA from Union in 2003.

While at Union, Houghton earned eight varsity letters for cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. Houghton qualified for several state and regional championships and his dedicated work ethic and positive attitude made him a key team member.

Riggi will assist Houghton on the Dutchmen and women's cross country efforts, while putting more focus on the track and field teams.
