Heywood nominated for ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year Award

ALBANY, N.Y. –
Union College junior forward Callee Heywood has been nominated for the 2009-10 Women's Student-Athlete of the Year Award, ECAC Hockey announced Wednesday.

League members were asked to nominate a top scholar athlete who met the qualifications such as a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the fall term and has played a minimum of 50 percent of the team's contests this season. Another requirement is leadership demonstrated both on and off the ice including community services and participation in institutional groups.

A committee made up of athletic department and university administrators will select three finalists and an eventual winner. ECAC Hockey will announce the winner at the end of the regular season.

This season, the Innisfail, Alb. native has played 34 games and registered three goals and three assists to combine for six points.

Other nominees are Brittony Chartier (St. Lawrence), Stephanie Denino (Princeton), Laura Gersten (Rensselaer), Randi Griffin (Harvard), Berit Johnson (Yale), Kelly McGinty (Cornell), Sarah Parsons (Dartmouth), Katelyn Ptolemy (Clarkson) and Kath Surbey (Brown).
