SCHENECTADY, NY --
Union College women's ice hockey head coach Claudia Asano released the 2010-11 schedule, which features twenty-two ECAC contests and twelve non-conference games against nine different opponents. The season commences on Saturday, Oct. 2 with a 4 p.m. contest against Northeastern at Messa Rink.

“When putting the schedule together I was trying to find the most competitive opponents," Asano said. "We scheduled some tough non-conference contests to better prepare us for league play."

The team plays two games in its first two weekends and Boston University follows Northeastern to Schenectady on Saturday, Oct. 9. The weekend of Oct. 15-16 sees Sacred Heart and New Hampshire come to town and the Dutchwomen conclude a six-game home stand on Oct. 22-23 with a pair of contests against Syracuse.

It will be great to be home for the first six games," Asano said. "We'll be able to better control our preparations with hopes of getting our underneath us before we hit the road.

Union takes to the road for the first time and heads to the North Country to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Oct. 19-20 before returning home to hosts Quinnipiac and Princeton on Nov. 5-6. The two weeks mark the beginning of the ECAC Hockey portion of the schedule.

“ECAC Hockey will be very competitive league -- as always -- with some great games," Asano said. "The league has added some great recruits and returning Olympians. It will be a great year for our conference.”

After that Union heads to Brown and Yale on Nov. 12-13 before breaking away from league play with a contest at Providence on Nov. 28., marking the first-ever contest against the Friars.

The month of December includes a home-and-home series against cross-town foe Rensselaer on Dec. 3-4 and a week later Union welcomes UConn to Messa rink for a one-game weekend on Dec. 7. The calendar year is closed out with a long trip to Maine, the second in three years, during Dec. 10-11.

A New Year's Day special awaits the Dutchwomen when they return from the holiday break. Vermont arrives for a pair of games on Jan. 1-2. As the sandwiched games of another six-game home stand, Harvard and Dartmouth come to Union on Jan. 7-8. NCAA Frozen Four participant Cornell arrives on Jan. 14 with Colgate following on Jan. 15.

Union then hits the road for four-straight games, heading to Dartmouth and Harvard on Jan. 21-22 and to Cornell and Colgate on Jan. 28-29.

Yale and Brown make their trip to Union on Feb. 4-5 prior to the Dutchwomen making their final road trip of the regular season to Princeton and Quinnipiac on Feb. 11-12. The schedule is completed with St. Lawrence and Clarkson coming to Messa Rink on Feb. 18-19.

Last season, Union finished 5-18-1 with a 1-20-1 conference record.
