SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College swimming & diving teams were selected to the Scholar All-America Team, an award given by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). In addition, five members of the Union College swimming & diving teams have been named to Scholar All-America individually, Steven Schapp was named to the First Team selection while
Brian Scarlett,
Erica Fugger,
Meredith Nearpass and
Diana Fletcher received Honorable Mention.
Schapp was a three time All-American in the 1650 freestyle and was a four time UNYSCSA Conference Champion in the 500 free. Schapp was a two time UNYSCSA Conference Champion in the 1650 and he holds the Union record in the 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free. He received the Douglas McDevitt Award Winner from the UNYSCSA Conference and was a five time Liberty League Swimmer of the Week.
Scarlett was selected because of his NCAA B qualification in the 100 backstroke (with a time of 51.84). and 200 medley relay (1.34.45). The relay team included
Alex Boyd,
Kevin Jung and Schapp. Nearpass had an NCAA B qualification standard in the three meter dive with a score of 421.1. Fugger was selected due to the NCAA B cut in both the 50 free (24.32) and 100 free (53.37). She also was a part of the 200 free relay that included
Diana Fletcher,
Priscilla Wright and
Maria Prendergast. Fletcher's efforts in that relay qualified her for the academic honors. That 200 relay time was clocked at 1:36.77.
