Men's Swimming & Diving defeats Hamilton for first time in seven seasons

D.J. Hogenkamp won three events and participated in a winning relay as well.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –
The Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Hamilton 177-119. It was the first time in seven seasons that the Dutchmen had downed the Continentals. 

Leading the way was DJ Hogenkamp (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), who won the 200 free with a time of 1:47.92, the 50 yd free with a time of 22.22, and the 100 free with a time of 48.79. He was part of the 200 medley relay win that also included Kevin Kewin (Brockport, NY/Brockport), Pat Canniff (Latham, NY/Shaker), and Julio Vidal (Guilderland, NY/LaSalle) and won with a final time of 3:40.10.  Vidal also won the 100 fly at 54.89. Kewin was first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.45. Other winners for Union were Adam Bisogni (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), who won the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.82.  Aaron Phillips (West Hartford, CT/Conard) won the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.79.  Shane Hubbel (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) won the 200 breast at 2:18.97. Union also won the 400 free relay at 3:19.77 with Vidal, Bisogni, Matt Acciani (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and Jack Honor (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) participating.

Leading Hamilton was Todd Johnson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boy School), who won the 100 back with a time of 52.74 and the 200 back with a time of 2:01.91. Jason Brown (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Prep) won the 1650 free with a time of 17:00.28 and the 500 free clocked at 4:59.17. Hamilton's Mike Salmon (Lowville, NY/Lowville Academy) took both the three-meter and one-meter diving events with scores of 324.98 and 306.07 respectively.

The Dutchmen will host Ithaca on Feb. 4 starting at 2:00 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. originally scheduled for 1 p.m.
