Ormsby, Rogers, Tobin named Liberty League All-Stars

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Three members of the Union women's basketball team were named to the 2007-08 Liberty League All-Star Teams. Junior forward Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) was named to the Second Team while junior center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) and junior guard Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY) received Honorable Mention honors.

This is Tobin's second straight season that she was named to the Honorable Mention team. This is the first time Rogers and Ormsby have received league basketball honors. Both players have received honors for other sports (Rogers for softball and Orsmby for volleyball).

Rogers averaged 12.9 points and 6.3 rebounds in 24 games for the Dutchwomen. She shot 633% from the floor, which ranks second in all of NCAA Division III through February 28. Rogers shot 66.4% from the line with 38 steals, 30 assists and six blocked shots. A three time Liberty League Forward of the Week, Rogers leads the Liberty League in field goal percentage and is fourth in scoring, sixth in offensive rebounds and seventh in reboundsl She stands 10th in league in free throw percentage and scored in double figures in 17 of 24 games with four double doubles. She had a career high 24 points at Skidmore and career best 14 rebounds at Montclair State, where she was named to the Red Hawk/Pioneer Classic All-Tournament Team. On the season, Rogers had nine games of 15 or more points.

Ormsby averaged 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds in 24 games. She shot 40.4%, and 50.0% from the line with 34 steals, 28 assists and 10 blocks. Ormsby was a three time Liberty League Forward of the Week, and ranks fourth in Liberty League in offensive rebounds, fifth in rebounds, eighth in scoring and eighth in defensive rebounds. She scored in double figures in 17 of 24 games and had six games of 10 or more rebounds. Ormsby posted four double doubles, including back-to-back double doubles vs. Hamilton and William Smith. She scored a career high of 26 points at Williams, with 11 rebounds in that game, and had eight games of 15 or more points.

Tobin scored 10.7 points per game and dished out 49 assists. She also had a 78.1% mark from the line with 31 steals in 23 games. She was named to the Red Hawk/Pioneer Classic All-Tournament Team and was the Liberty League Guard of the Week on Nov. 26. Tobin ranked fourth in the league in three point field goals made and was ninth in three point field goal percentage, and 14th in scoring. She had 12 games in double figure scoring with a career high of 27 points at Williams, and scored 26 at home vs. William Smith and 23 points at Montclair State. On the season, Tobin had five games of four or more assists, with five vs. Skidmore, and tied her career high with seven rebounds at Williams then seven at Utica.
