CENTERVILLE, MA -- The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced the 2008 ECAC Division III Northwest Football All Star Team on Monday, January 5. Union had two players selected, running back
Chris Coney and offensive lineman
Tony Morello.
Coney had previously been selected as a Liberty League First Team All Star. He had 1,283 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games. He had the fourth most rushing yards in a regular season in Union history and the third most rushing touchdowns in a season for a Dutchman all time. He led the Liberty League in rushing, scoring and touchdowns, and ranked 12th in NCAA Division III in rushing and tied for 10th in scoring. Coney was third in the league in all purpose yards and seventh in total offense. He had two 200 yard rushing games and also had four other games with 100 yards rushing. He had 244 rushing with 3 TDs at Susquehanna and 243 with 3 TDs at Hobart. He rushed for four TDs vs. Rochester and 3 vs. St. Lawrence. Coney had a rushing TD in eight of the nine games and had five games with at least two rushing scores.
Morello also had received Liberty League first team honors. The co-captain started at right tackle for three straight seasons and was a D3Football.com All East Region selection as well as a Liberty League First Team honoree in the 2007 season. He started 30 consecutive games and won a total of three league all star honors. Union allowed 132.7 rushing yards per game and a total of 13 sacks in nine games.
Union finished 5-4, recording a 28th straight non-losing season. Head Coach
John Audino has coached the Dutchmen 17 seasons and has never had a losing season.
