Four Dutchwomen Named to Liberty League Field Hockey All Star Team

Lizzy Moran was a Liberty League First Team All Star.
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Four members of the Union College field hockey team were named to the Liberty League Field Hockey All Star Teams announced November 5. Midfielder Lizzy Moran was selected to the First Team, while forward Kelsey Powers and goalkeeper Sarah Rios were Second Team selections. Back Allie Ryan was named to Honorable Mention honors.

Moran started all 18 games and had six goals and six assists for 18 points. She was tied for 7th in assists in the league. She scored two goals against RPI and had a streak of five games with at least one point to end the regular season. Over that five game period, Moran had 21 total shots. She had  seven games of four or more shots and scored the game winner in overtime in the must win at Rochester on Oct. 24. She also scored game winner vs. RPI.

Powers also started all 18 games and finished with six goals and seven assists for 19 points. She was named a Performer of the Week and received Womensfieldhockey.com honors. In league stats, Powers ranked tied for fifth in assists per game, was fifth in shots on goal, seventh in shots, and seventh in shots on goal percent. She scored twice in the win at William Smith that clinched a playoff berth. Powers had nine points in her last three regular season games and 12 in her last five games entering the playoffs. She had had six multi point games and led the team in game winning goals, with the game winner in the final regular season game at William Smith that put Union into the playoffs.

Rios had a 1.59 goals against average with a 10-8 record and an .824 save percentage. She led the Liberty League in saves, saves per game, shutouts, shutouts per game, and minutes played. Rios was a two-time defensive performer of the week and was second in goals against average. She had 39 more saves then the player in second, and played over 180 more minutes then the person ranked #1 in GAA. Rios had shutouts vs. Oneonta, RPI, Vassar, St. Joseph and Williams. She allowed one or no goals in 11 of the 18 games. She posted a career high of 23 saves vs. nationally ranked Montclair State in a 2-1 OT loss and had 17 saves vs. Williams. Rios had  four games with 10 or more saves in this, her first  season as a starter.

Ryan was a four year starter and Union had won a total of 47 games during her career. The Dutchwomen allowed an average of 9.1 shots on goal by opponents during the regular season, and opponents were held to 10 or less shots seven times this year. Ryan helped lead a backfield that  allowed one or less goals in 11 of the 18 games.

Union finished 10-8, recording a fifth straight 10 victory season.
