SCHENECTADY, NY -- The restoration of Riverside Park in Schenectady has been evident, and a major reason for these efforts comes from members of the Union College crew teams. Head Coach
Tom White and his student athletes continued this excellent tradition recently.
For the past eight years in the month of May, Union Crew has volunteered to assist in the clean up and restoration of Riverside Park. The Park is adjacent to Union's Boathouse and the Mohawk River. It covers a four block area between Ingersol St. and Washington St. in the historic Stockade District of Schenectady.
Projects have included raking the tennis court and children's play area, trimming brush along the river, preparing and planting flower beds and painting fences along the river walk path. The City of Schenectady provides tools for the removal of brush and other refuse.
"Union Crew is rewarded for their effort with a picnic lunch compliments of the Stockade Garden Club and Arthur's Market," commented White. "We appreciate the city, the club and Arthur's Market for their support and assistance in this annual project.
"It is a true community event that has a very positive impact on our neighbors in the Stockade and our student athletes," said the coach.
