Softball team to host ECAC Championships May 15-16

Nina Cervini's season continues after the walk-off homer won the Liberty League Championship.

CAPE COD, MA -- After finishing the regular-season and league tournament with a 29-8 record, Union College was selected as the number one seed in the 2010 ECAC Division III Upstate Softball Championship. The tournament is a four-team field with a double-elimination format in the semifinals and final.

On Saturday, May 15, No. 1 Union (29-8) will host the Upstate tournament at Alexander Field. Game 1 will include Union vs. No. 4 Elmira at 11:00 a.m. followed by Game 2 with No. 3 Medaille (22-19) against No. 2 St. John Fisher (25-19) at 1 p.m. The losers of Game 1 and Game 2 will play each other in Game 3 at 3:00 p.m. In Game 4,, the winner of Union/Elmira will take on the Medaille/St. John Fisher winner at 5:00 p.m.

On Sunday, May 16, Game 5 will feature the winner of Game 3 vs. the Game 4 loser. Game 6 will be the championship with the winners of Game 4 and Game 5. A Game 7 will take place if the undefeated team loses Game 6.

This is Union's fourth straight ECAC Championship appearance, and the Dutchwomen are the three time defending champions. Union has won the last nine games in tourney play, and is hosting the tournament for the third straight season.

Double Elimination (Day 1) – Saturday May 15

Game 1: #1 Union vs. #4 Elmira, 11:00 a.m.

Game 2: #2 St. John Fisher vs. #3 Medaille, 1:00 p.m.

Game 3: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 3:00 p.m.

Game 4: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 5:00 p.m.

Double Elimination (Day 2) – Sunday, May 16

Game 5: Loser of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 3, 10:00 a.m.

Game 6 Championship: Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5, 12:00 p.m.

Game 7: Winner of Game 6 vs. Loser of Game 6, 2:00 p.m. (if necessary)
