Field hockey squad opens 2010 season

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The 2010 Union College field hockey team opens the new season September 8, when the Dutchwomen play at SUNY Oneonta at 5 p.m. Union's home season will start on Saturday, September 11 when the Dutchwomen host WPI at Frank Bailey Field at 2 p.m.

Union went 10-8 last season, and has many key players returning. Senior forward Kelsey Powers had 19 points last seson, and joins returnee and midfielder Tyler Willey as the team leaders from a year ago in goals with six each. Shannon Brady is back after missing last season and sees action on defense as well as in the midfield Goalkeeper Sarah Rios played every minute in the Union nets last fall, with a 1.59 goals against average and save percentage of .824. She is 21st among active NCAA Division III players in career goals against average (1.48) and her save percentage career mark of .801 is ranked 12th in Division III.

After the game at Oneonta, Union will play six of the next seven games at home. Union's Liberty League portion of the schedule opens September 18 at Skidmore.
