TROY, N.Y. - After etching her name into the Union College track and field record book in her first collegiate meet at the Suffolk Relays in Boston this past Saturday, first-year
Ashley Sheldon has been selected as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Sheldon placed her name atop the Union women's 60-meter hurdles record book in her first collegiate event, crossing the line in 9.56 seconds, .05 seconds better than the previous record held by Bethany Crowe '13 and set almost 12 years ago.
Sheldon later participated in the 4x200 relay, guiding her quartet to a second-place finish in their heat and eighth-place finish out of 20 teams overall with a time of 1:50.39. She completed her day nearly setting another program record with a fifth-place finish in the women's high jump, clearing the bar 1.55 meters (5'1") up, just one inch shy of the program best.
The Andover, Massachusetts native picks up Union's first Rookie of the Week honors since
Grace Ardito was tabbed back in April after winning the women's high jump at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational.
After taking the rest of the year off for the holidays, Sheldon and the track and field programs return to action to kick off the new year January 12th at the Utica Winter Opener.
