SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – 17 total members from the Union College men's and women's track and field teams get set to compete in the 2023 All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships on Wednesday and Thursday. Susquehanna University will host the two day event from Doug Arthur Stadium.
On the women's side there are six individuals running and three relay teams as well. Senior
Leila Warde will take part in the first event of the day, being the heptathlon. The heptathlon will be completed over two days. Warde scored 3392 points at the Liberty League Championship.
Junior
Allison Malatesta, qualified for the Regional in the 300m steeplechase with her 12:01.65 in the race at the Liberty League Championships 11 days ago. The women's 3000m steeplechase will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
The other runners of Wednesday will be the participants in the women's 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m relay is set to run at 3 p.m. and the team of senior
Glory Moncion Allen, junior
Caroline Stanton, and sophomores
Gabi Baker and
Marley Froe will run it. In the 4x400m relay, Baker, Mocion Allen, Stanton, and first-year
Grace Ardito will compete in the event, set to begin at 6:15.
On Thursday the remaining women's athletes will compete. Senior
Denesha Lafontant will compete at 12 p.m. in the women's triple jump. Lafontant jumped a record breaking 11.36m at the RPI Capital District Classic.
Sophomore
Cat Dacey will make her second straight appearance at the AARTFC in the 1500m. Dacey broke a 13-year-old record in the 1500m with a 4:45.19. This time was a new best for her. The 1500m, starts at 12:30 p.m.
Baker races in the 400m at 1:40 p.m. She clocked a season best 58.54 in the 400m at the Liberty League Championships that helped improve her time in the race. This time is personal best for Baker.
Junior
Alayna Gibson earned qualifying time of for AARTC in the 800m with her third-place finish at the Liberty League Championship. Gibson clocked a 2:20.93 for her best time ever and earned an All-Liberty League honorable mention for her efforts.
The women will wrap up the meet with a 4x800m relay of Gibson, Dacey, Malatesta, and junior
Gabby Gavala. That race is set to begin at 4:05 p.m.
For the men, they have four individuals racing and a 4x800m relay as well. First-year
Jason Bois will be the only member of the men's team to compete on Wednesday, with the 110m hurdle trials. Bois ran a season best 15.16 at the Liberty League Championships and finished fourth overall.
The pairing of junior
Charlie Alekson and sophomore
Ben Neff will both race in the men's 1500m on Thursday afternoon at 12:50 p.m. Alekson clocked a 3:51.17 at the RPI Capital District Classic, which was his best of the season. Neff clocked a 3:55.39 in the race at the Liberty League Championship, where he finished fifth.
First-year
Aidan Savitt, makes his AARTFC debut in the 400m. Savitt clocked a season best 51.65 in the quarter mile at the RPI Under the Lights meet, where he finished in fourth place. Union will also put together a relay team of Neff, Alekson, senior
Aiden Rowley, and junior
Ben Trantanella, to race in the 4x800m on Thursday at 4:25 p.m.
