Union earns 3-0 win over Worcester State in Union Soccer Classic

Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY
– The Union College men's soccer team came away from the Union Soccer Classic undefeated as they shut out Worcester State 3-0 on Sunday at College Park.  The go-ahead goal came from senior Craig Santangelo less than three minutes into the game.  It was the forward's first goal of the season, and Union starts out the year with a 2-0 record.

The winning goal originated from early offensive pressure from junior Sebastiaan Jansen.  From six yards out, Jansen fed the ball to Santangelo, who then buried it in the low left corner of the net for a 1-0 Union lead.

The second Dutchmen goal came 21 minutes later when junior Chris Choquette tipped in his first of the season.  Santangelo and sophomore Nick Vozzella were credited with the assists.  Senior Kevin Giron tallied the final Union goal when he drove the ball from 15 yards into the left corner.  It was Giron's first goal on the season, as well, and Jansen's second assist of the night.

The squad produced 14 shots and two corner kicks, and earn a team shutout as senior goalkeepers Mike Szczesniak and Adam Margulies shared the net.  Worcester had three corner kicks and delivered 10 shots.

In its next match, Union takes on Western Connecticut on Tuesday, September 6, at 7 p.m.  The Dutchmen look to continue their winning streak and remain undefeated.
