NEWARK, N.Y. – The Union College baseball team ended their season with a 10-3 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology in the second game of the NCAA New York Regional Tournament.
The Dutchmen finished their season with a record of 26-12-1 as they matched the program record for wins just one season after setting the record.
Senior pitcher
Dane O'Neil started his ninth game of the season for the Dutchmen as he went five innings, allowing 10 hits, eight earned runs while striking out two. The other Dutchmen senior pitcher
Andrew Beaule also saw action and allowed two earned runs over 1.2 innings while striking out one.
Freshman
Jake Fishman capped off a great season by going 3-4 from the plate with three singles. Seniors
Vincent Esposito and
Joe Bradlee, sophomore
Eric Egan, junior C.J. Worley and freshman
Kent Curran each had base knocks for the Dutchmen. Curran, Fishman and Bradlee each scored on wild pitches for the Dutchmen's three runs.
Other pitchers for the Dutchmen included
Matt Yonta and
Greg Geisel.
O'Neil dropped to 6-2 on the season while Yano improved to 5-3 on the year.
Bradlee, O'Neil, Esposito, Beaule,
David Peretti and
Sam Caruso each end their Dutchmen career as being part of the two most successful aseason in program history. The 2014 season marks the best season in program history and ended with a Liberty League Championship and the first NCAA appearance since 1965.
