SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Clarkson's Russ Vitallo converted a layup with 32 seconds remaining and Union missed a jumper with two seconds showing as the Golden Knights ended the Dutchmen's 10-game win streak, 57-56, in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association basketball showdown at Memorial Field House.

Brian Scordato converted one of two free throws with 5:19 left to go to tie the game at 53. From there, Union took a three-point advantage, 56-53 with 2:37 left. Devon Bruce hit one of two free throws to give the Dutchmen a 54-53 nod with 3:17 showing before Scordato canned both of his charity shots. Josh Harner's jumper at the 2:16 mark brought the Golden Knights back to within one, 56-55, before Vitallo's layup provided Clarkson with the victory.

Union outshot Clarkson from the field, 45.7 to 35.7 percent, but the Golden Knights took advantage of their free throw opportunities, hitting 12 of 15 charity shots while the Dutchmen connected on just 10 of 19 attempts.

The win was the fourth-straight for the Golden Knights, who improved to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the league. For the Dutchmen, it was their first setback since losing their opener by seven points at Williams, the defending national champions. Union fell to 10-2, 1-1 in the UCAA.

The first half saw the Dutchmen enjoy a 12-point lead, 25-13 with 4:41 left to play, as Jim Rahill hit one of two free throws. However, two free throws by Russ Vitallo started an 18-7 run that saw the Golden Knights pull to within one, 32-31, on Josh Harner's three-pointer with four seconds showing. Harner sparked the Knights' comeback as he scored off a steal and off and offensive rebound to account for seven of Clarkson's points down the stretch. EJ Harrison was also a major contributor for the Knights as he chipped in with five points and two assists, the second of which came on Harner's three-pointer just before the half.

Sophomore guard John Cagianello and junior forward Devon Bruce combined for 16 first half points to help the Dutchmen to their quick lead. Cagianello scored hit a three-point basket with 11:03 left to give the Dutchmen a 15-4 lead before Bruce's layup off Cagianello's feed gave Union a seven-point advantage, 17-10, with 9:27 showing.

Harnet finished with a game-high 20 points for Clarkson while Vitallo had 12. Nick Jones and Harner each pulled down six rebounds. Union was led by Scordato's 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots while Cagianllo scored 13 points. Bruce contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a block.
