Â
The win was the 10th-straight for Union, who go into Friday's Liberty League Tournament game against No. 3 William Smith with an overall record of 16-1-1. The two-day event will be held at top-seeded Hamilton with the second-seeded Dutchwomen playing the Herons at 1:30. The championship is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. Union is looking for its third consecutive tournament title, and the Liberty League's automatic NCAA berth, and its sixth consecutive appearance in the national event. Hamilton will play No. 4 Skidmore at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Gawronski picked up her 41st career victory to break the program's standard of 40 set by Shannon Powers, from 1996 through 1999.  The Dunkirk, New York, native also posted her 24th career shutout to tie the mark of Carolyn Stead, which was established between 1999 and 2002. Gawronski, who has given up just three goals this year, had three saves against the Cardinals to complete her 14th shutout of the season thus breaking her own record.
Mariani, who leads the team in goals scored, picked up her 16th of the season with 14 minutes showing in the first half to give the Dutchwomen a 3-0 and found the back of the net for the 17th time with 32:10 left to play to increase Union's advantage to 5-0. Senior Britany Cressman, the team's leading scorer, picked up her 13th goal of the season with 40:56 left to play to make it 4-0 and contributed her team-high 15th assist on Mariani's first goal.Â
Cressman, who will go into the Liberty League tournament with career total of 46 goals, 40 assists and 132 points, is second on the Dutchwomen's all-time scoring list. Missy Matusewicz tops the chart with 69-23-161. Her 15 assists is a single-season record for Union, breaking the old mark of 13 set by Lauren Byrne in 1999. She is already the team's all-time assist leader, shattering the old record of 29.
Senior Molly Flanagan, a three-year starter who missed all of last year with a knee injury, opened the scoring with 25:44 showing to pick up her second game-winning goal of the season. She also had an assist on Cressman's goal. Jen Ondash's sixth goal of the year and Caitlin Cuzzo's fourth of the season rounded out the scoring goal scoring while junior Eirka Eisenhut contributed her eighth assist on Ondash's tally.
St. John Fisher ended the year with an overall record of 6-9-2.
