Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Union Will Meet Plattsburgh for ECAC Upstate NY Championship

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Union and Plattsburgh will meet for the Eastern College Upstate New York Women's Soccer championship Sunday (Nov. 14) at 1 p.m. at College Park Field.  The top-seeded Dutchwomen defeated the University of Rochester, 3-1, while the third-seeded Cardinals upset No. 2 William Smith, 1-0, in Saturday's semi-finals.

Union, which is in postseason play for the sixth consecutive year, is looking for its first ECAC championship.  The 18-2-1 Dutchwomen can tie the program's all-time single-season victory record of 19, which was set last year.   Plattsburgh, meanwhile, improved to 16-5-0 with its victory.

Freshman Caitlin Cuozzo broke a scoreless tie at 47:24 when she found the back of the net after classmate Brianne Sosa's shot rebounded off Rochester goaltender freshman Molly Leitch.  The Yellowjackets, who end at 12-5-2, tied the game when sophomore Emily Urbanczyk scored an unassisted tally off a scramble in front of the net at 49:25.

Senior Molly Flanagan picked up what proved to be the game-winner when she scored an unassisted tally from 40 yards out.  Junior Marissa VanWoeart gave the Dutchwomen an insurance tally when she connected on a header off Brittany Cressman's corner.

Union's defense limited Rochester to just two shots on goal as junior netminder Julie Gawronski picked up her 47th career win.  Junior Adrianne Hulchanski stopped all four shots she faced in her 45 minutes of playing time while Leitch finished with five saves in eight chances.

Plattsburgh combined junior Gena Rosenbaum's goal at 61:18 with sophomore goaltender Jia Aliperti's two-save performance to upend the Herons.  Rosenbaum converted a pass from Kaleen McCool with a shot inside the 18-yard box.

Sophomore Nikki Dudley finished with eight saves for the Herons, who finish the year at 13-4-1.
