Box ScoreGENEVA, N.Y.--Quarterback Shawn Mizro completed a 14-yard touchdown pass on Hobart's second play of its first overtime possession to lead the Statesmen to a 33-27 victory over the Dutchmen. The victory enabled Hobart to clinch the Liberty League championship and the conference's automatic NCAA berth.
Mizro finished the afternoon by completing 22 of his 40 passes for 339 yards and a Hobart record five touchdowns. The Statesmen are now 6-0 in the league and 7-1 overall.
Union, which failed to convert a fourth and inches on its only extra session possession, is now 5-3 on the year and 5-1 in the league. The Dutchmen play at Rensselaer next week in the annual battle for the Dutchman Shoes Trophy.
Sophomore quarterback Anthony Marotti completed 18 of 29 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns. Classmate Steve Angiletta caught eight balls for 198 yards and a pair of scores. His 73-yard reception gave Union a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and his 10-yard scoring catch with 12:18 left in the third period helped the Dutchmen to a 20-12 advantage.
Sophomore receiver Ryan Twitchell, who had three catches for 61 yards, gave the Dutchmen a 13-12 edge with his 10-yard TD reception with 37 seconds left in the first half. His 28-yard scoring catch, which came with 14:12 left in the fourth quarter, gave Union a 27-24 advantage.
Hobart tied the game on Eric Ampuja's 29-yard field goal with 5:38 left in regulation. The three pointer capped a 16-play, 87-yard drive that covered 5:38.
Union finished the game with 378 total yards while Hobart ended with 458. Sophomore tailback Tom Arcidiacono led the Dutchmen's ground game with 70 yards on 31 carries (the Garnet finished with 76 rushing yards).
