Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Gross scores three in the fourth to lift Union over Oswego, 11-7

Box Score

Junior attack man Peter Gross scored three of his five goals in the fourth period and classmate goaltender Will Tamm stopped 12 of the 19 shots he faced as Union posted its first win in three games as the Dutchmen defeated Oswego, 11-7, on Frank Bailey Field.

The victory was the first for first-year head coach Erv Chambliss. It was the season opener for the Great Lakers.

Trailing 7-3 after Bryan Bendjy's scored with 9:36 left in the third period for Union, Oswego rallied to tie the score as Scott Ferguson and Brian Smith combined to tally game next four goals over the next seven minutes. Gross, who had given the Dutchmen a 5-1 lead with his first tally of the contest at 10:41 of the second period and made it 6-2 at 3:15 of the stanza, picked up the game-winning tally when he took Dan Myerow's feed and beat Laker goaltender Travis Hon with 10:58 left in the game.

Mike Sparico's second goal of the game made it 9-7 with an unassisted tally just 46 seconds and Gross gave the Dutchmen more breathing room with an assisted goal with 7:40 remaining. He iced the game with 1:52 on the clock with Sparico picking up the helper.

Sophomore attack man Dan Myerow got the Dutchmen rolling with a pair of first-period goals. Union's scoring leader needed just seven seconds to pick up his eighth goal of the season after taking a pass from Gross, who won the opening face-off and beating Hon. Myerow's ninth of the year came with 13:24 showing with Andy West picking up the assist. Myerow, who finished with five points, helped Union enjoy a 6-3 lead at the break. Gross led all players with seven points.
