GENEVA, N.Y.Union tallied a goal in each half to down Geneseo State, 2-0, in women's soccer at the annual Heron Cup hosted by William Smith College. The Dutchwomen finished 2-0 for the weekend, blanking Allegheny and the Blue Knights, 2-0, on Saturday.

Geneseo (1-4-0) came out strong in the early going, maintaining possession and creating some dangerous attacks, but Union struck first in the 14th minute. Junior forward Erika Eisenhut knocked home a through ball from senior forward Brittany Cressman  to make it a 1-0 game. It was Eisenhut's second goal of the season.

The Dutchwomen continued to control the play for the remainder of the half, outshooting the Knights, 16-0, in the first half.

Union started the second frame right where it left off in the first, getting a second score from Cassandra Mariani in the 48th minute. Ripping a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box into the left upper-ninety, Mariani notched goals in both victories for the Dutchwomen this weekend.

The Blue Knights battled back and started to get behind the Union defense, however, they were unable to connect on any of their opportunities. Junior Jackie Fertitta had the best chance after eluding defenders with nifty footwork, but her shot could not find the back of the net.

Union outshot Geneseo 27-4 for the game and held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks. Junior goalie Julie Gawronski had four stops in the 90 minutes, while freshman Dana Cummings made 10 stops for Geneseo.

Mariani, junior midfielder Marissa VanWoeart, and freshman midfielder Caitlin Cuozzo were selected to the All-Tournament team for Union, while Mariani was also voted the Heron Cup's "Most Valuable Offensive Player" after tallying a pair of goals.
