CLIFTON PARK, N.Y.Ryan McAleese and Jeff Marcoux scored first half goals and netminder Kevin O'Connor made them stand up with a two-save performance as Union opened its soccer season with a 2-1 victory over Potsdam at the Clifton Commons.
McAleese scored two minutes into the game off a corner kick by Mike Carey and Marcoux converted a cross by Ari Davies to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 advantage at the 35th minutes. Potsdam's Joe Kourofsky converted a corner kick by Mike Hooker in the 83rd minute to help the 0-2 Bears avoid the shutout.
The Dutchmen finished with an 18-5 overall shot advantage.
