Dutchwomen Celebrate Viniar Dedication by Beating Vassar, 73-42

Schenectady, NYSenior forward Katlyn Cunningham connected on her first nine field goal attempts and finished with 18 points to lead Union to a 73-42 Liberty League victory over Vassar College at the Viniar Athletic Center.  The victory not only improved the Dutchwomen's overall record to 8-3 (3-0 in the conference), it put an exclamation point on the dedication of Union's brand new basketball facility.  An enthusiastic crowd gave donor Dave Viniar, Class of 1976, a standing ovation as he cut the ceremonial ribbon after the game.

The Dutchwomen dominated the game from the opening tip-off as they jumped out to a 20-4 lead and led by as many as 20 points, 30-10, in the first half enroute to a 36-21 halftime advantage.  Twelve of the 13 Dutchwomen who saw court time scored at least one point.  Melissa Marra had a game-high seven assists while Sarah Krammen had six.  Courtney Shepard led Union the boards with seven rebounds.

Vassar, which dipped to 4-7 (0-2 in the league), were led by Natalie Serkowski's 12 points.
