Union defeats #14 Springfield, 73-51

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Senior guard Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) scored a game-high 17 points and added five steals to lead Union to a 73-51 victory over Springfield Tuesday night at the Viniar Athletic Center.

With the victory, Union's second straight, the Dutchwomen improved to 2-3, while the Pride now stands 5-3. Springfield was ranked #14 in the latest D3hoops.com poll.

Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored 14 points and Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Maginn) had a team high seven rebounds for Union, which forced 23 turnovers on the night. Union shot 41% for the game and both teams finished with 35 rebounds.

Senior center Erin Schwartz (Milford, CT/Montrose Area) led the Pride with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Tara McCarthy (Bristol, RI/LaSalle Academy) scored 10 opints. LaToya Franklin (Latham, NY/Shaker) also had seven rebounds for the Pride.


Union trailed 12-8 with 10:33 left in the first half, but the Dutchwomen went on a 29-6 run to close out the half with a 37-18 lead at the break. Union's largest lead was 29 points at 73-44 with 2:16 left in the second half.

The Dutchwomen scored 18 points off turnovers and the bench contributed 21 points in the victory.

Union returns to action Saturday for the final home game before the holiday break. The Dutchwomen host Mount Saint Mary on December 17 at 2 p.m.
