Mount Saint Mary defeats Union, 67-51

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Junior center LaSheena Brown (Malverne, NY/Malverne HS) had game highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead Mount Saint Mary to a 67-51 women's basketball victory over Union College at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Knights improved to 6-2 while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-4 on the season.

Senior guard Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) led Union with 21 points and also had five steals and five rebounds. Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had a team high 12 rebounds for the hosts and Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) added 10 rebounds for the Dutchwomen.

Brown made 10 of her 15 shots and had 11 defensive rebounds for the Blue Knights. Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, NY/Kingston) scored 13 points for Mount Saint Mary while Kellie Stuwart (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) added 12 points.

The Blue Knights led 27-25 at halftime and led 34-29 with 16:56 left in the second half. Union went on a 10-4 run for a 39-38 lead with 10:44 left in the second, featuring four free throw points by Rogers. But Mount Saint Mary went on a 13-0 run in the next 4:04 for a 51-39 lead with 6:40 left, and led by as many as 20 twice in the final minutes of the contest.

Union outrebounded Mount Saint Mary, 44-39, and forced 28 Blue Knight turnovers. But the Dutchwomen shot 24% while the visitors shot 48% for the game.

Union is idle until December 28, when the Dutchwomen play Kean at the Lehman Tournament. Union will play either Old Westbury or host Lehman on December 29.
