Hammond has double-double in loss at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Middlebury moved to 6-1 on the year as it picked up a 49-45 win over Union (0-3) in the Pepin Gym.

The first half saw Middlebury hold an 11-0 advantage from the free throw line, taking a 24-22 lead into the intermission. The Panthers held a slim lead for a majority of the second half, with Union battling back to tie the game at 40-40 with 5:25 remaining. Trailing 48-45, the Dutchwomen had an open look at a three with 12 seconds left, but a Union shot was off target as Middlebury pulled down the rebound. Emily Johnson made one of two from the line to seal the 49-45 win.


No Middlebury player was in double figures, with nine players entering the scoring column. Johnson led the team with nine points, followed by Micaela McVary and Ashley Barron with seven points apiece. Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) led Union with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 8 of 16 from the floor. Erika Eisenhut's (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and Devon Ciliberto (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) added 10 points apiece.

Union returns to the court on Friday, December 9, when the Dutchwomen open their home season at the Viniar Athletic Center to host the University of Rochester at 6 p.m.
