TROY, NY -- Union's women's lacrosse team opened the Liberty League season with a solid first half, but lost at Rensselaer, 8-6 Friday.
The Dutchwomen, playing in their first game up north after two contests in Florida earlier in the week, fell to 1-2 overall, while Rensselaer is now 1-1.
For Union,
Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee) had three goals, all in the first half.
Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) scored two goals for the visitors while
Tanya Davis (Fayetteville/Jamesville-Dewitt)Â added the other Union goal.
Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA/Needham)Â stopped five shots in net. Meghan Gaul stopped 12 shots for Rensselaer.
The Red Hawks scored six straight goals in the second half to overcome a 5-2 deficit at the break. Hilary Lahn, who finished with three goals, opened the second half scoring just 25 seconds into the stanza. Kate Phillips added two goals in the span for Rensselaer.
Union's game that was scheduled at Vassar for Saturday, March 26, was canceled. The next contest for the Dutchwomen will be on Tuesday, when Union opens the home season against Middlebury at 4 p.m.
