Box ScorePoughkeepsie, NY (April 20, 2005) Union scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back as they defeated Liberty League opponent Vassar 17-4 on the road Wednesday evening to snap a three-game losing streak. Five Dutchmen registered multiple goals in the game led by junior Dan Myrow (Sudbury, MA) who put up five and added one assist. Union improved to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the league with the win.
Two of Myrow's goals came during Union's five-goal outburst which all came within a span of four minutes early in the first period. Sophomore Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT) scored all of his points during that time, putting up two goals and one assist. In the same period Vassar got its first goal of the game from Elliot Miller at 6:48. Following another Union goal, the Brewers closed out first period scoring with an unassisted tally from Phil Szela with 22 seconds.
Once again Union was uncontested at the start of the second period as they scored three straight goals to build a 9-2 lead. Pete Gross (Larchmont, NY) was the first to strike for Union with one of his three goals at 12:05 with an assist from Myrow. Vassar scored its final two goals in the second period capped off by Miller's strike at 5:34. Union kept the Brewers off the board the rest of the way while putting up six more over the final two frames.
Freshman Chris Collison (Trumbull, CT) finished things up in the fourth quarter with the final two goals of the game. Both were assisted by Tom Simmons (Salisbury, CT).
Goalie Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT) picked up the win for Union, finished with five saves and allowing just four goals. He would be replaced early in the third quarter by Will Tamm (Millbrook, NY) who finished with three saves and did not allow any goals. On the other side Will Widen suffered the loss for Vassar. He came up with 13 saves.
Union kept constant pressure on the Brewers as they outshot them 48-19 for the game.
