Union volleyball loses home to Williams in three games

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Williams College, ranked 27th nationally last week, defeated Union College in three games in women's volleyball action at the Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night.

The Ephs, 7-2, won by scores of 30-26, 30-24 and 30-18. Union fell to 2-12 on the season.

Williams was paced by junior outside hitter Krista Suojanan, who had 19 digs and 11 kills in the triumph. Freshman outside hitter Riki McDermott had 17 digs for the winners while senior outside hitter Annie Denison finished with 16 kills. Junior setter Alexis Knepp finished with 38 assists.

Union was led by senior setter Suzy Barbaritz (Clarence, NY/Clarence), who wound up with 24 assists in the match. Senior outside hitter Charelle Carter (Schenectady, NY/ND-BG) had 13 kills and freshman outside hitter Stephanie Schuman (San Francisco, CA/Urban School) posted 19 digs.

Union will compete at Clarkson along wtih Hamilton on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The next home match will take place on Tuesday, September 27 against Middlebury at 7 p.m.
