SCHENECTADY, NY – Junior midfielder Stephanie Cannulli (Howell, NJ/St. Rose) scored with 13:41 remaining in regulation to lift Union College to a 1-0 women's soccer win over Hamilton College in Liberty League play Friday at College Park Field.
The Dutchwomen, ranked fifth in the NSCAA/adidas Division III New York rankings, improved to 10-2-3 and 5-0-1 in the Liberty League. The Continentals, ranked eighth, fell to 8-2-2 overall and 4-2-0 in league play. Union is undefeated in 11 games, going 9-0-2 in that span.
Cannulli scored her first goal of the season, when she took a feed from center from
Stephanie Cronan (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead). Cannulli was just outside the box on the right of the Hamilton net and sent a low drive in for the eventual game-winner.
Mia Simone (Rexford, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) made two saves for the Dutchwomen, posting her seventh shutout of the season and third in four games. Caitlin McGilley (Northfield, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) made four saves for the Continentals. The game started in very windy and rainy conditions, but the second half featured less rain and wind as the game went on.
The Dutchwomen outshot the Continentals, 13-2, including 7-1 in the second half, and had a 7-0 advantage in corners.
With the triumph, Union hosts William Smith for a showdown of league unbeatens on Saturday. The Herons are 6-0-0 in the league after a 1-0 win at Skidmore Friday. The winner of Saturday's 2 p.m. game will host the Liberty League Championship Tournament November 3-4.
