SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Union College volleyball team split games in day two at the Skidmore Invitational Saturday.
In the first match of the day, the Dutchwomen fell to Ramapo College of New Jersey, 3-1. Game scores were 30-14, 30-14, 26-30, 30-21.
Jen Merinder (Andover, MA/Andover) led the Dutchwomen with nine kills and 16 digs, while
Lauren Lesce (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) added 31 assists.
Mary Volcko (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) chipped in with eight kills and seven digs, while
Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights,NY/Roslyn) had eight kills.
Lesce posted 41 assists, while
Kaitlyn Evans (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had 27 digs to lead the Dutchwomen to a three-game sweep of Colby Sawyer. Game scores were 30-23, 30-26, 30-20.
Kelcey Noble (Lake George, NY/Lake George) added 12 digs, and
Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had nine blocks.
Over four matches, Merinder totaled 34 kills, four aces and 33 digs, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Dutchwomen are now 12-17 on the season and are back in action against Saint Rose Tuesday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in the Viniar Center.
