Yale scores five power play goals to upend Union 9-1

New Haven, CT – Union (3-20-1, 0-16-0 ECACHL) scored first but Yale (9-10-5, 6-5-4 ECACHL) scored furiously to hand the Dutchwomen a 9-1 ECACHL loss in the series finale at Ingalls Rink. The Bulldogs scored five of their goals on the power play to finish five-of-nine for the game. Goaltender Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) made 55 saves in her third start of the season for Union.

Union got on the board first with an early power play goal from Maeve Kehoe (Chelsea, QUE) at 4:03 of the first period for her third of the season. The Dutchwomen finished one-of-three on the power play. After that it was all Yale as they scored nine unanswered starting with a pair midway through the first. Jenna Spring scored on the power play to get the Bulldogs going at 9:29 off a feed from Danielle Kozlowski. Spring would finish with two goals on the afternoon. Sheila Zingler came back one minute and three seconds later with an even strength tally to pick up what would prove to be the game-winning goal.

Crysti Howser wrapped up the first period scoring on the power play with 32 seconds left. She also finished with three assists for a four-point outing.

Yale added four more goals in the second period started up by a pair from Lisa Jacque. She got things started at 2:36 and followed up with her fourth of the season on the power play at 6:13. Howser picked up her first assist on Jacque's first goal. Following a goal by Kelsey Johnson, Spring notched her second goal of the game to make it 7-1 at 15:05 with an assist from Deena Caplette. Johnson scored her second goal of the game at 6:18 of the third period before Zingler wrapped up the scoring at 13:52 with her second of the game with an assist from Caplette.

Yale outshot Union 64-14. It was the most shots the Dutchwomen have allowed this season. Goaltender Shivon Zilis got the win for the Bulldogs, making 13 saves.

Union returns to Messa Rink for its final home series of the season as they face Princeton beginning on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
