ONEONTA, NY -- Freshman setter Lauren Lesce (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) had 38 assists in her first match for Union College but the Dutchwomen volleyball squad lost the season opener in five games to Potsdam. The match was played in the Holiday Inn/Red Dragon Invitational hosted by SUNY Oneonta Friday. Scores for victorious Potsdam were 24-30, 31-29, 19-30, 30-24 and 15-10.

Junior Danna DeBlasio (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) had 24 digs for the Dutchwomen, while freshman Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA/Andover) added 20 digs.

Other highlights included eight blocks by Mary Volcko (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) and six blocks by Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs).

Play continues in the 14-team tournament through Saturday.
