POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Host Vassar won all three games vs. Union in the first match of the Vassar College Volleyball Invitational Friday. The Brewers won by scores of 30-22, 30-22 and 30-28.

The Brewers began the 2006 VC Invitational as they did a year ago, by beating in the opening match. Vassar was led by the attack of sophomore, Katie Newton and junior, Cat Foley and the serving of junior setter, Amanda Hsiung, Foley led all players with 10 kills.

Union's Danna De Blasio (Schenectady, NY/ Schalmont) defended well against the Brewers attack with 15 digs, while Julie La Spina (Roslyn Heights, NY/Roslyn) ran the Dutchwomen attack with 13 kills, the most poignant coming to end the longest volley of the match, as Union took a 19-18 lead in game three.

Play in the tournament continues through Saturday.
