SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore center
Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/ Burnt Hills) and sophomore guard
Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/ Bishop Maginn) scored 19 points each to lead Union to an 87-66 win over William Smith in a Liberty League women's basketball game Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Dutchwomen have won three straight and are now 4-1 in the Liberty League, and 8-7 overall, while the Herons fell to 8-6 and 2-2 in the league.
Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) scored a season best 17 points off the bench, hitting seven of 11 shots for the Dutchwomen.
Devon Cilberto (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) scored 13 with 10 rebounds for the double double while Tobin joined the Herons' Amanda Nann (Schuylerville, NY/Saratoga Catholic) with a game high seven rebounds.
Union's
Selin Whitham (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) had a game best seven assists.
William Smith was led by Marisa Vespa (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart), who led all players with 21 points. She also dished out six assists and had four steals, and Erin Cunningham (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored 13 points and blocked three shots for the Herons. Union shot 49% and forced 21 turnovers, and the Dutchwomen bench had a 36-15 scoring advantage. William Smith shot 45%, and Union had the rebounding edge, 40-33, as well as the lead at the half, 41-30.
Next up for the Dutchwomen is a league game Friday night at Clarkson at 6 p.m.
