SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The 7th-ranked Union College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Skidmore College in a Liberty League contest Saturday at Wachenheim Field. The Dutchmen, who received the goal from sophomore Paul Angelo (Albany, NY) stand to 10-2-1 and 3-1-1 in Liberty League play. With a third straight tie, the Thoroughbreds move to 3-6-5 and 0-1-4 in conference play.
The physical contest ended with a combined 35 fouls, five yellow cards, and one red card.
The Dutchmen went ahead 1-0, when Chris Poey (Amherst, MA) stole the ball at midfield and pushed it forward to Angelo for a breakaway goal in the 31st minute.
The Thoroughbreds, despite playing a man down for most of the second half, tied the score at 77:28 when Matt Kelsey (Cambridge, MA) fired a header into the net off of a corner from freshman Doug Yeates (Richmond, VT).
Union held a 7-2 shot advantage in overtime, but was denied by Skidmore keeper Jake Densen (Summit, NJ) who made a key save with five seconds left on a point-blank shot by Jon Bellock (Manchester, CT). Densen had four saves, while Union's Rob Kramer (Westport, CT) finished with seven.
The Dutchmen play the final four games of the season on the road, starting with Liberty League games at Vassar (Oct. 20) and RPI (Oct. 21).
