Dutchwomen win at Russell Sage; teams raise $900 for breast cancer research

ALBANY, NY -- The Union women's volleyball team improved to 21-6 with a four game victory over Russell Sage Tuesday night. Union won by scores of 30-28, 26-30, 30-25 and 30-25. The Dutchwomen and the Gators joined forces to raise $900 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a cause that provides breast cancer research.

The Dutchwomen were led by  Rachel Ornsby (Charlton, NY), last weekend's MVP at the Liberty League/SUNYAC Challenge hosted by Union. She had 20 kills. Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) recorded 11 kills and Erika VanValkenberg (Cicero, NY) added nine kills.

Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) finished with 14 kills while Veronica Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) led the defensive effort with 39 digs. Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) had 46 assists in the victory.

Union competes at the Skidmore Invitational Friday and Saturday.
