Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#24 Dutchwomen fall to #13 Williams, 1-0

SCHENECTADY, NY – Junior Gabrielle Woodson (Plano, TX) scored in the eighth minute of the game to lead the 13th-ranked Williams College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over 24th-ranked Union College in non-conference action at College Park Field Tuesday night. The Ephs remain perfect on the season at 9-0, while the Dutchwomen drop to 8-3 overall.

Woodson carried the ball up the middle into the box and let loose with a high-arcing shot. Union netminder Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) jumped to stop the shot, but the ball deflected off of her outstretched right hand and into the upper left corner of the net.

The Dutchwomen threatened with their first shot in the 21st minute. After a corner kick by Katie Weinstein (Marblehead, MA), freshman Caitlin O'Donnell (Hampden, MA) found a loose ball and fired from the far right, but her laser was stopped by Williams netminder Laura Sinnenberg (Westfield, NJ).

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Union had another chance to get on the board. After a corner by Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT), Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) connected for a header at the near post, but her shot hit a Williams defender.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Williams back Jacqueline Russo (Rockville Centre, NY) sent in a high shot from about 17 yards out, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar.

Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) set up another scoring chance for the Dutchwomen in the 84th minute with a narrow cross, but Sinnenberg charged out of the net and snatched the ball.

Sinnenberg made four saves in her seventh shutout of the season. McDonald made three saves in the loss.

The Ephs maintained a 10-6 shot advantage, but the Dutchwomen held a 5-4 advantage in shots on net.

Union returns to Liberty League action this weekend at St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The Dutchwomen take on the Saints at 4 p.m. Friday. Williams hosts Bates in an 11 a.m. NESCAC game on Saturday.
