SCHENECTADY, NY – Freshman
Caroline Tulp (Acton, MA) netted two goals and an assist to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Oneonta State Thursday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen conclude the regular season with a 12-5 record, and will take on top-seeded William Smith in the opening round of the Liberty League Tournament on November 2.
Keelin Skurek (Massillon, OH) put the Dutchwomen on the board early, sliding in a pass from
Mallory Mason (Southborough, MA) in the fourth minute.
Tulp capitalized with a pair of goals just over two minutes apart, first off feed from Mason in the 17
th minute, followed by an unassisted tally off a rebound from
Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) in the 19
th minute.
Just over a minute into the second half, freshman Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville, NY) cut Union's lead with her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Mason responded for the Dutchwomen in the 42
nd minute, one-timing an inbound hit from
Anne Hanson (White River Jct., VT).
Senior Jacki Rose (Marathon, NY) scored Oneonta's second goal of the game in the 47th minute, converting a corner played in by Marissa Chiapperino (Carmel, NY).
Moran capped the scoring in the 62nd minute with her team-leading 11th goal of the season, with Tulp picking up the assist.
Erika Dombkowski (Carmel, NY) made 16 saves in the first 62 minutes of the game, including a spectacular split save midway through the first frame when she denied Union's bid for a four-goal lead after a penalty corner. Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville, NY) made three saves in the final 8:30 of the game.
Freshman
Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) made seven saves in relief after
starter Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) did not face a shot in the first 19:25. Rios thwarted a breakaway by
Kathryn Kubaryk (Warrensburg, NY) in the waning minutes of the game.
Union travels to top-seeded William Smith on Friday, November 2, for the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. Oneonta hosts Rochester in a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, October 27.
