SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union women's volleyball team wrapped up one of the most successful seasons in the program's history in the ECAC Division III Upstate Championships. Union lost in a semifinal match to Vassar, 3-0, to finish the 2007 season with a 28-12 record. Union had won the Liberty League Championship and posted a school record in victories.
Vassar won by scores of 30-20, 30-28 and 30-24. Caitlin Ly led the Brewers with 11 kills, three blocks and four digs, while Ali Al-Khatib had 36 assists, three aces and eight digs.
Junior middle hitter Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) led the Dutchwomen with 11 kills, seven blocks and 11 digs, while Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) added 11 kills. Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) recorded 28 assists and 11 digs, and Veronica Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) finished with 22 digs.
In the other semifinal, Ithaca defeatd Hartwick in four games.
