SCHENECTADY, NY -- Ten players scored in a deep Dutchwomen effort, including sophomore guard Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/ Bishop Maginn) with 15 points and sophomore center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/ Burnt Hills) with an additional 13 points to lead to the 67-55 victory over Vassar in a Liberty League women's basketball game Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Dutchwomen came back with a strong win tonight to advance their overall record to 11-10 and their Liberty League record to 7-4, while Vassar fell to 6-14 overall and 1-9 in the league. Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/ Shenendehowa) led Union on the boards with a total seven rebounds, she also had five point, three assists and two steals to round out her night. Sophomore guard Selin Whitham (South Winsdor, CT/ South Winsdor) led the team with four steals her 25 minutes of game time.
Vassar was led by freshman forward Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/ South Portland), who led all players with the game high 17 points. She also dished out two assists, two blocks and two steals, while fellow player Elise Okusami (Olney, MD/ Georgetown Day School) had additional 16 points and two assists.
Union shot 39.4% and forced 19 turnovers, and the Dutchwomen bench had a 42-12 scoring advantage. Vassar shot 45.7% for field goals and 41.7% for threes. Union had the rebound advantage of 40-35.
Next up for the Dutchwomen is a league game Saturday against Rensselaer at 2 p.m. Union is one half game behind second place RPI, which comes in with a 7-3 league mark.
