Dewey, Collison lead Dutchmen to 23-3 lax victory at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, NY – Led by three goals each from senior Will Dewey (Yardley, PA/ Princeton Day School) and junior Chris Collison (Trumbull, CT/ Trumbull), the Union College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-3 victory over Cazenovia at Chittenango High School Saturday evening. The Dutchmen conclude their season with an overall record of 5-9 and a Liberty League record of 1-5.
 
Junior captain Tom Simmons (Salisbury, CT/ Salisbury) registered a game-high five points on a goal and four assists, and senior captain Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/ Conard) picked up four points on two goals and two assists.
 
Cazenovia (1-13) scored first on a Gareth Fabian tally before Union rattled off seven unanswered goals to hold a 7-1 first-quarter lead. Collison sparked the scoring 3:35 into the opening frame before Marc Magee (Madison, CT/ Daniel Hand), Jon Miller (Yarmouth, ME/ Yarmouth), Condon and Anthony Savaglio (Jericho, VT/ Mount Mansfield Union) scored goals in less than four minutes.
 
Chip Miller (Rye, NY/ Rye) picked up a goal to start the second quarter for an 8-1 lead before Fabian struck again for Cazenovia. Union then went on a nine-goal run for a 16-2 halftime lead. Pye Russell (Acton, MA/ Acton-Boxboro Regional) recorded his first goal of the season and senior David Schneidman (Chappaqua, NY/ Horace Greeley) tallied his first career score in the stanza.
 
Zach Hooker scored for Cazenovia to open the second half of the game, but Union rattled off seven more goals in the final two quarters for the 23-3 final.
 
Senior captain Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/ New Canaan) made four saves in the first quarter for the Dutchmen before being replaced by freshman Rahde Franke (Harwood, MD/ Mercersburg Academy), who made one save in just over 18 minutes of action. Christopher Keinath (Wilbraham, MA/ Minnechaug Regional) finished out the game with three saves.
 
Cazenovia's Erik Tice and Todd King combined for 12 saves.
