ONEONTA, NY -- Junior middle hitter Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) and sophomore defensive specialist Veronica Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) were named to the Red Dragon Invitational All-Tournament team, leading Union to the championship round of the Gold Bracket Saturday. Union's second day of play featured a four-game win over Fairleigh Dickinson and a three game defeat in the finals to Scranton.
In the first match of the day Saturday, the Dutchwomen downed FDU, 30-19, 30-25, 25-30 and 30-21. Sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) highlighted the victory with 42 assists and Mynders had 36 digs. Middle hitter Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) led Union with 13 kills while Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NJ) and Schumaker each posted 11 kills.
Scranton won the Gold Bracket over the Dutchwomen with scores of 30-23, 30-12, and 30-19.
Union returns to action next weekend at the Vassar Invitational.
