ONEONTA, NY- Junior outhitter
Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) had 14 kills for the Dutchwomen as Union improved its record to 14-4 with wins over SUNY Geneseo and Russell Sage on Friday afternoon. LaSpina had 14 kills as Union out-douled Geneseo in the first match three games to one (3-1).
In the first match against SUNY Geneseo, Union posted scores of 30-23, 26-30, 30-20, and 30-19, winning by a score of three games to one.
Rachel Ornsby (Charlton, NY) recorded five blocks to go along with fourteen kills for the Dutchwomen. Junior
Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) recorded six blocks and ten kills for Union en route to their fourteenth victory of the season.
Union went on to sweep the day as they beat Russell Sage in the nightcap by the score of: 28-30, 32-30, 23-30, 30-17, and 15-12.
Veronica Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) was the star of the second match as she recorded 40 digs for the Dutchwomen. Sophomore
Jen Merinder (Andover, MA) also starred for Union as she posted 51 assists and 22 digs for Union. LaSpina continues her hot streak as she recorded 15 kills of her own. Schumaker and Ornsby both chipped in with 15 kills apiece for Union, while recording four and seven blocks, respectively.
Union continues action Saturday against Fredonia and Skidmore College in the SUNY Oneonta Tournament.
