SCHENECTADY, NY – Freshman forward Jocelyn Veilleux (Westford, MA) scored the eventual game winning goal with 4:45 left in regulation time as the Union women's soccer team came back for a 2-1 Liberty League win over Hamilton Saturday at College Park. The Dutchwomen improved to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Liberty League, while the Continentals fell to 6-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.
Junior midfielder Katie Weinstein (Marblehead, MA) assisted on both goals and Katie McLean (Newton, MA) scored the tying tally for the Dutchwomen.
Megan Cairns (Rochester, NY) opened the scoring for the Continentals when she scored her second of the year on a free kick at 21:25. McLean tied it for Union at 78:58. Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT) took a corner and Weinstein headed it towards the net, where McLean kicked it in. Hargis also figured in on the game winner. Her corner was deflected by Weinstein towards Veilleux, who banged in her second of her rookie campaign.
Union had a 16-7 shot advantage, including 6-1 in the second half, and also had 14 fouls to Hamilton's 10. Union posted 11 corners while the Continentals finished with three. Union goaltender Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT) made three saves while her Hamilton counterpart, Kate Fowler (Branford, CT) stopped nine.
The Dutchwomen play October 18 at Skidmore at 1 p.m.
