SPRINGFIELD, MA – The 13th-ranked Union College women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Springfield (16-3-2) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Dutchwomen, who finish with a 14-5-1 record, were making their ninth appearance in the national tournament in ten years.
The Dutchwomen had an opportunity to tie the game in the 89th minute with a penalty kick, but Springfield netminder Sue Jenney made the save and preserved her team's victory and finish seven saves.
At the other end, sophomore
Abby Stohler made one save in the game.
The lone goal of the match came in the 25th minute when Nicole Hanewich netted her team-leading 10th goal of the season. After Maria Evans slipped a through ball behind the Dutchwomen defense, Hanewich ran onto the ball just inside the right side of the box. Hanewich then slotted her shot into the far left corner of the goal.
Union held a 25-6 advantage in shots and an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
