Field hockey loses in Liberty League tourney, 2-0 to Skidmore

CANTON, NY -- Skidmore College defeated Union College, 2-0 in a semifinal game of the 2008 Liberty League Championship tournament Friday at North Country Field at St. Lawrence.  The Thoroughbreds improved to 14-3 on the season and advance to Saturday's title game, while the Dutchwomen fell to 14-4 and had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Christine Kemp and Sheray Michel scored for Skidmore, which outshot the Dutchwomen, 14-5. Skidmore had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and both teams had eight corners. Union senior goaltender Liz Stanford made three saves for the Dutchwomen while Liz Catinella also stopped three shots.

Kemp notched her 16th goal of the season 7:44 into the contest. The tally was assisted by Anne Murphy. The Throughbreds added insurance at 59:22, as Kemp fed Michel, who notched her second of the year.

The Dutchwomen will learn Monday if a possible post-season berth will be awarded.
