SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College volleyball team has won the Liberty League Championship for the second straight season. The Dutchwomen went 4-0 in the league tournament at home this weekend at the Viniar Athletic Center. On Saturday, Union defeated Vassar, 3-0 and St. Lawrence, 3-0 to improve to improve to 35-5 on the season. The tournament's Most Valuable Player was Union's
Veronica Mynders.
Joining Mynders on the tournament team was Union teammate
Erin Schumaker. The Dutchwomen defeated Vassar, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19, and also swept St. Lawrence, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17.
In the morning match against Vassar, Mynders had 19 digs and Schumaker posted eight kills. Union also got 28 assists from
Erika VanValkenburg and 19 digs from
Rachel Ormsby.
VanValkenburg posted 25 assists and 10 digs in the afternoon win over the Saints. Ormsby had nine kills and
Eve Richards posted nine kills and six digs.

Jason Wood were recognized as the 2008 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. Ormsby joined Skidmore's Erica Duncan as the Co-Players of the Year. Other 2008 awards included Mynders named to the First Team, and

Eve Richards selected to the Second Team.
Union awaits word on a possible at-large selection to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The field may be announced late Sunday night.
