SCHENECTADY, NY – Junior forward Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY) scored a career high 23 points and added eight rebounds at Union posted a 67-61 win over Liberty League rival Rensselaer Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchmen, winners of four straight, now stand 8-13 overall and 4-7 in league play. The Red Hawks fell to 9-12 overall and 4-6 in the Liberty League.

Desmarais, who has scored in double figures in 14 of 18 games, made nine of 13 from the floor and also added three steals. Senior captain Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY) scored a season high 18 points with a game high nine boards. Grimm now has 64 points during the four game winning streak, an average of 16 per contest. Joey Lokitis (Norton, MA) scored 14 with three steals and seven rebounds. Senior forward Sam Simmons (Newburgh, NY) posted a double double, pulling down a game best 16 rebounds with 20 points. He also had four steals in the game. Devin Galvin (Newburyport, MA) scored 14 points for Rensselaer, which had a 41-36 rebounding edge.

Union led 36-30 at the half but the visitors took a 51-44 lead in the first 8:20 of the second stanza on a layup by Simmons. He had five rebounds during that run. But Union took control again in the next 4:39 with a 14-2 run capped by a Grimm three pointer. He scored 12 of his points during that seven-plus minute span, including five straight baskets. The Dutchmen led by as many as 10 (65-55 with 2:27 remaining in the second half).

The Red Hawks shot 36% for the game while the Dutchmen shot 48%, including 50% during the first half.

Union will host Vassar Saturday at 4 p.m., and the game will mark the final regular season home contest for Grimm and fellow senior Delon McAllister (Irvington, NJ). Rensselaer plays Saturday at Skidmore at 4 p.m.
